Waiting for Godot<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/span>by\u00a0Samuel Beckett\u00a0performed by Wellington Theatre Company<\/p>\n

Misquote\u00a0from Casablanca: \u201cOf all the gin\u00a0joints (theatres) in all the towns in all the world,
\nshe walks (he doesn’t walk)\u00a0into mine\u201d Surely\u00a0one day Godot will turn up?
\nI won’t even attempt to explain any plot of last night’s play – Robert implied,\u00a0‘each to his own’<\/em>\u00a0in last night’s interesting adjudication.<\/p>\n

But two things stuck in my mind:“Let’s go. We can’t. Why? We’re waiting for Godot!”<\/em>
\nand“We wait. We are bored. No, don’t protest, we are bored to death, there’s no denying it.
\nGood. A diversion comes along and what do we do? We let it go to waste.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The curtain\u00a0opened on the important tree as the two sartorially challenged tramps, Vladimir and Estragon begin their explanations, challenging as expected, of why they are there. I hope the manager of Clarks shoe shop wasn’t taking lessons on the art of shoe fitting, most normal people are not blessed with that sort of flexibility!
\nThe plot (if you can call it that) continued with great skill; how did they recall all those lines without losing their way?<\/p>\n

A great evening’s entertainment about the\u00a0purposelessness of life\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>which gave each of us food for (different) thought. Excellently presented and staged, the interesting details made me smile. Thank you Wellington Theatre Company!<\/p>\n
