{"id":4601,"date":"2025-01-13T21:56:06","date_gmt":"2025-01-13T21:56:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/madf.im\/?page_id=4601"},"modified":"2025-10-07T18:48:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T17:48:46","slug":"a-midsummer-nights-dream","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/madf.im\/?page_id=4601","title":{"rendered":"A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4749\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Concept<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream will be an all island production staged in the grounds of Government House by kind permission of His Excellency, Sir John Lorimer.<br>The performance will a promenade around the gardens of the house and will take place on<br>5\/6\/7 September.<br>Proceeds from the production will be split between MADF and Hospice IOM.<br>Characters and text will be adapted to make the performance a truly Manx experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key dates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><s>1st March: Shakespeare workshop<\/s><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><s>20th March: Audition Form deadline<\/s><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><s>22nd\/23rd March: Audition weekend<\/s><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>May &#8211; August: Rehearsals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30th\/31st August: Dress Rehearsal days<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5th\/6th\/7th September: Performance days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Audition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/MND-Audition-Form-editable.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Audition Form (Editable)<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/MND-Characters-Auditions-Pieces-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Characters and Auditions Pieces<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Production-Info-3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Production Information<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Staging\/Setting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream is split into 4 main performance settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Athens<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Play within a play<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wedding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Different parts of the garden will be used for each setting.<br>The performance will start at 6pm to enable use of as much natural light as possible with the closing stages being at dusk utilising fairy lights in the trees and lanterns to give it a \u2018magical\u2019 feel.<br>The production will set in the 1980\u2019s &#8211; an era which gives lots of latitude for creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Music<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As there will transitional time between scenes as the audience and the action moves around the garden music will form an integral part of the production.<br>Including music provides a great opportunity to get more performers involved in this magical experience.<br>Involvement will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Roc Vannin &#8211; 80\u2019s ballads for Athens &amp; Wedding<br>scenes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>David Kilgallon &#8211; traditional Manx music for Forest<br>scene<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mine\u2019s a Shanty for Play within a play<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Costuming<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building on the 80\u2019s theme we will be taking inspiration from some of the classical styles<br>of the decade.<br>Athens will step out of the set from Dallas and Dynasty with power suits and shoulder<br>pads.<br>The forest scenes will celebrate the pop culture style.<br>The mechanicals will reflect the tools of their trade. These will come from typical manx trades &#8211; fishermen, weavers, thatchers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Casting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Cast.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Cast-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4757\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Cast-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Cast-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Cast-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Cast-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/madf.im\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Midsummer-Nights-Dream-Cast.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Auditions were held in March 2025.<br>We held open auditions and encouraged people who have not normally been involved in drama to get involved.<br>We advertised through social media and during our \u2018Mastering Shakespeare\u2019 initiative where our workshop practitioners inspired people to continue their Shakespeare journey.<br>Many of the roles within \u2018A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream\u2019 are gender and age fluid and we promoted diversity through our casting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sharing art with the community<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of our celebration we will be working with Hospice IOM to involve them in the event.<br>Children from Rebecca House will help make the lanterns for our wedding scene.<br>Excerpts from the production will be performed in the gardens for patients to enjoy.<br>Proceeds from the production will be split between MADF and Hospice IOM and will be<br>used as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MADF &#8211; to host workshops on acting, directing and writing to develop new involvement in our festivals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hospice IOM &#8211; to provide creative workshops for patients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Diversity\/Inclusivity Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MADF\u2019s ethos very much focuses on \u2018theatre for all\u2019 bringing people from different backgrounds together to enjoy the art of creating live theatre.<br>Participation is encouraged across the island and everyone is recognised and appreciated for their talents.<br>As this is an amateur theatre co-operative the majority of participants volunteer their time for rehearsals and performances.<br>Where professional creatives are involved we aim to ensure we provide appropriate remuneration for their services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Creative team<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Director &#8211;
