Last night we enjoyed two one act plays.<\/p>\n
Escaped Alone<\/strong><\/em> by Caryl Churchill<\/strong> performed by Rushen Players<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Terrible rage, terrible rage, terrible rage, terrible rage!\u00a0These four ladies had a few problems didn’t they!<\/p>\n We opened to a pleasant garden scene with 4 chairs and\u00a0three ladies entering, plus a tea service on the table.\u00a0Pleasant ladies’ chat we thought. Mrs. Jeffries enters stage left,\u00a0obviously not invited but sort of welcomed.\u00a0The ‘chat’ evolved into some disturbing stuff and these 3 ladies certainly had problems.\u00a0Psychological issues, was it murder or self defence and a cat psychosis?\u00a0Would you want these guys as neighbours?\u00a0Then there was Mrs. Jeffries with her apocalyptic view of a catastrophic world.\u00a0Where will it end? Well certainly\u00a0without any drop of tea!<\/p>\n Typical Caryl Churchill, Chris Baglin explained, you’re not supposed to ‘understand’ the script, A great piece of theatre to open our Festival,\u00a0thank you Rushen Players.<\/p>\n Victoria Station<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by Harold Pinter<\/strong> performed by Parodos Theatre Company<\/strong>.<\/p>\n How about Mr. Pinter’s friendly, customer service focussed cab company?\u00a0What a spooky pair they were.\u00a0I felt sorry for the poor guy left at Victoria Station.\u00a0Did he ever get to see his grandmother?\u00a0He should have booked an Uber.<\/p>\n Great characterisation of the Controller and Driver.\u00a0You could feel the Controller’s frustration building and building.\u00a0The spaced out attitude of the Driver was comic in the beginning, but\u00a0what really happens to the POB female asleep on the back seat?\u00a0Is it love or something sinister, we will never know.\u00a0And that’s exactly what Mr. Pinter planned.
