Eulogy: Susie Beswick

Susie Beswick

IN MEMORIAM

Suise Beswick

In November 2024 Susie passed away after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2021.

She was an enthusiastic supporter of drama on the Island having attended MADF Festivals since 1994 initially as an audience member then actor, director and organiser and as an active member of Rushen Players played the Erin Arts Centre stage many times. Susie always enjoyed the Easter Festival and would happily chat theatre till after midnight in the Green Room.

Susie’s interest in theatre started in Henllan, North Wales where her Grandmother (Nain in Welsh), an accomplished singer, actor and director encouraged her interest in amateur performance from a very early age.

Susie was actively involved with local theatre wherever she was based, playing at the Minac when living in Penzance, Warfield Players when in Berkshire and Anonymous Players when based in Kirkham, Lancashire.

Although, in the last two years, the disease did limit her ability on stage she was able to play Lady Cravenshire with Legion Players on the Gaiety stage in 2020 and direct September in the Rain with Rushen Players at the 2023 MADF Festival.

She was a life-long actor, director, creative whirlwind and tireless source of energy. Sadly missed by all her family, friends and audiences. Never one to dress down when introducing the festivals at the Gaiety and Erin Arts Centre, she will be remembered by many for her colourful sense of dress and enthusiasm.
